βHow do two brothers get into the nail care business?β This is the single most common question people ask us. Thereβs a long and rocky version but weβll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighterβs training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. Weβre respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and weβll show you how to use them with incredible results. Itβs really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

Iβm a new nail tech student and I seem to have minor little bumps in the nails that are only noticeable after painting, I e-file then hand file and even buff to prevent this issue but itβs my only flaw. Could you give any tips or make a video that could help perfect finish filing? Thanks
@Heather Mullins thank you! I have spent on good quality products and I feel the more sets I do the better I am getting, the only area that has been setting me back would be finish filing. I think Iβll just have to spend more time finish filing in order to get a smooth finish without little bumps, I guess I just worry too much about time that I rush over it sometimes. Appreciate the tips, Iβll definitely keep that in mind βΊοΈ
@Emily Habib if you’re doing that good, and you said you’re still a student then you’re doing amazing already love! I would say if you have good products, your sets are coming out that good with only some lumps and bumps here n there, then its definitely that you just need to slow down, pay attention, look at the nails from all different angles, and you’ll be fine. Dont worry so much about your time right now, worry more about your application, your technique, and your filing process. If you think the problem is in the filing process, not your application, then come up with a regular filing routine. Young nails has an awesome video on e-filing, highly recommend that one! Try n do your filing the same way every time, double check from every angle every time before you add your top coat or any art or polish and you should be good. And again dont worry so much about your time right now. When I first started out it would take me three and four hours to do a simple set, no art, no smile lines, just a full set with some polish and topcoat. But my nails were perfect! It dont take me any where near that long now, and I’ve heard other nail techs say the same thing. That it took them two and three and four hours to do a set at first. Worry about your time after you get your application down (which it seems like you have got!) And then get down your filing routine, then worry about your time. Your time will come with practice and patience, I promise. But worry more about that last. And I’m still not as fast as other nail techs, I’m no where near as fast as some and may never be. But my work is good, I think (I can always do better and will always keep trying to do better and learn new things but any good nail tech thinks the same way. I’m never fully satisfied with my nails, I always wanna improve something. But that’s a good thing! So I’ve been told) and there is classes you can take after you learn your application and filing and everything that will help with speed and time too….. with all that rambling aside, I’m pretty sure that’s your only problem, slow down some, get everything down where your happy with your application and filing then work on time….. also sorry for the super long comments. It’s late, my husband is out of town for work, my son is asleep, I’ve had a glass of wine (working on my second) and I’m bad for rambling and long comments when I’m sober let alone with even a tiny bit of alcohol in me lol…… best of luck! (I think your gonna do great! You seem determined) and lots of love and God bless.
@Heather Mullins Awww youβre so sweet, I guess time is what stresses me out because Iβm an at home salon so people expect me to run on time like salons in shopping centres. But thank you for your kind comment and words, youβre so sweet. I guess I just have to do my own thing and stop beating myself up so much for it. Iβve been studying nails for 6 months now, and Iβve gotten quicker and better so I need to just be patient and remind myself that Iβll get better as time goes. Donβt apologise for the comment, Iβm very grateful that you took time to give me some tips and to reply so I wish you good luck with your business too Xx
@Emily Habib tell “those people” go to a salon in the shopping centers, they will get their nails done faster, but not near as good”. Yes those places are fast, but not quality, not exactly what you ask for. I actually work from home now too. Since all the covid stuff, and my husband’s out of town alot, I got use to and love staying home with my son, I may not ever go back to any salon unless its my own. Once my son starts school (which is this year and I dread it, he’s excited but I’m a mess cuz I’ve gotten so use to being able to stay home with him) ill take more clients then, but I really like working on my own, doing better work, getting to talk to and get to know my clients better, I love it. I’m not saying don’t ever work in a salon, the faster you are the more clients you will get, the more money you will make, but I like doing what I do and how I do it. And my clients are always happy. I actually do tell them “yes I take a little longer, but ill give you exactly what you want, I don’t cut corners, I don’t try n talk anyone into something else, and I guarantee my work, with the exception of people that bite and pick at their nails” and believe me you’ll get those clients and they will SWEAR they didn’t do anything. Lol. But alot of people like the more personal atmosphere, and feel like they will get better service, not so much faster……. you’re gonna do fine love! I can tell!…. OK I’ve now had my third glass of wine, I need to get in bed. Lol…. take care, good luck, God bless.
Iβm learning and I had same problem, I bought a better electric file and Iβm hardly having any bumps,
I was always told to drain my liquid, drag my brush, wipe wipe wipe my brush. Basically work with NO liquid. I had the hardest time! Once I started doing this “bounce” method and not draining out all of my liquid it was literally a game changer!! I hope nail tech classes are better now than from when I took them. Surely by now they are.
I was exactly the same, find it so much easier this way
Please what that liquid
@Lisa Mary its monomer
I feel like the no liquid method is great for a natural overlay but his only really works for long extensions
I thought you were talking about painting until I saw the words
Nail tech
Iβve seen others say to lightly pull the brush across the acrylic powder at an angle for 3-4 seconds for the perfect bead. I think it all depends on the tech and no one method is wrong if the results are just as good.
Itβs funny to see the different ways people were taught. I was taught lightly wipe on the side that wonβt touch the powder and bounce or step. But, I had trouble with getting the perfect bead so I started tapping once, twice and bounce! Looks like I got it right!
It’s not a pearl, it’s a bead and you’re supposed to lightly swipe one side of the brush, not push all the liquid out. A tap is gonna hold too much liquid sometimes.
Hello! The name doesnβt really matter they are called pearls and/or beads!
Also the amount of liquid held in the brush depends on the size of bead AND the consistency you want it in: be it Medium-Dry or Medium or Medium-Wet. Hope this helps!
βPraying that itβs gonna pick it upβ ππlol do t expose us
Didn’t know McQueen was a nail artist is his other life.
Hahahahahhaa
Iβve seen how to properly do this and all I have to say is. Very good tips! Youβre helping a lot of people!
I swear to god I feel like some people donβt understand how absorption works ππ
Well yeah that makes sense, lots of people dont learn about it :,)
His voice is so calming π€
Yass another piece of knowledge I will never use π
I memorized how to pick up an acrylic bead from Anacrylics
Sorry, but she’s a new tech,YN been in the gene over 20 years, just sayingπ€·πΌββοΈ
Idk why Iβm watching this, im a straight dude who doesnβt have makeup in his home and yet I am watching this and will remember it until the day I die
@electriclllady The bead that is being picked up is used over the natural nail and to then extend beyond to create the βnailβ its then shaped and smoothed out and painted, idk if I explained it well but hope this helps
Straight guys wear makeup too π€·
straight guys can get nails too, and have makeupπ
What does being STRAIGHT have to do with not having makeup or watching a nail video wtf
Same im a girl and don’t know how to use make up but i still watch this Video
Brain went into beat mode when he said, “bounce..bounce…bounce.”
Nice.
@ββ¬ β¬β πππHobi water lmao
@NAMJESUS yep
@Lil’ Elo i am so sorry for these comments oh my god
What do you mean?
@caro v haha it’s my own fault, always a foot in my mouth.
I use a size 10. In school they kept telling me I was working too wet so I was told to wipe both sides of my brush. This held me back. YN has taught me everything I know. Once I stopped draining all the liquid out of my brush and began trusting the run, it was a turning point for me. I just referred a struggling tech to you guys and I hope it helped her like it did me.
Them: βUr doing this or ur doing thatβ
Me: βmhmmβ
Also me: sitting in my messy room with crusty plain nails with a bag of ketchup lays chips
eww ketchup chips π€’
Ketchup chips are bussin π«
I like the pickle ones πββοΈπ¨
This is amazing. For years and now I understand π€π€©
i do most of these and my beads end up perfectπ as the saying goes itβs not how you get there itβs the fact that u got there
Anacrylics: has a whole different method but still has a really good result
I feel this is directed towards me. I needed to here this.
