Glass files don’t seem to cause the splitting rougher emory boards cause. I haven’t seen an issue since going to a glass file a year ago.

But my nails are quite flexible, and not very thin. YMMV

I heard if you have a glass file, you can file it both ways because the grit on it is a lot smoother and doesn’t catch and rip the nail.

I purposely slightly round off the sides of my nails because if I square them I’m tempted to nibble at them because my minds thinks ‘Oh, sharp! Must bite off’ being a long time nail biter this is the first time I’ve gone 3 months growing out my nails.

Whenever my nails are long enough for almond, I do try and have them be almond, but a tad softer. Sometimes square can be too bland, but looks good with certain colors.

I would suggest keeping them and your hands moisturized and keeping and extra layer for strength on your nails like a top coat or a full manicure. Your nails are at their weakest when they’re wet, so whenever you do dishes, try to find a pair of gloves.
