1. Remover – remove previous polish
2. Shaping – tidy up nail shape and length
3. Nail prep – push back cuticles, buff nails and cuticles, dry out nails
4. Polish – base coat, colour (2-3 coats), clean up brush, top coat
5. Hydration – cuticle serum, hand cream

Haha the polish on my left hand was a bit messier than usual but the right was spot on! 💅 I usually paint at the very edge of a table but had to have my arms outstretched further and at a different angle to get them on camera, so I wasn’t sure how it would go x
It always take me like an hour to two to paint my nails and it never ends up as good as yours :’^|
Practice makes perfect! Hope this gives you some tips to help the process 👍💅 x

You’re probably just over thinking it. I do that sometimes. And to share, I use Fast & Hard quick dry top coat by Vibrant Vinyls. I wait about 15 min after applying and I’m good to go. Most quick dry top coats are good, it’s just my preference.
Just practice, practice, practice like Matilda mentioned. And her clean up tips are on point.

I absolutely love the trick of not filling the whole nail with color & leaving a tiny gap on the sides so it elongates the shape of the nails!
I have slightly wide nails so this tip is so helpful!!

Re-watching this Vlog during pandemic after my many weeks of daily gardening …. even more so, self-care at home is huge risk reduction to cross-contamination or infection! However I do understand there are individuals who are not physically able to do one’s own manicure or pedicure. I never cut my cuticles, where that introduces a source of infection. The cuticle is actually there for a reason. Good demo on how to slightly ‘buff’. Matilda, I love the way you broke down the different steps and your various tips ! Thank you ! I am just awaiting when I can get Olive & June products shipped to 🇨🇦.

Another couple of tips to make your mani last longer :
Always seal the free edge of the nail when applying each coat of base, colour and top coat. This way there are no chips. I understand this will be easier to do for those who have longer nails.
Another one would be to make sure there’s a gap between the lower edge of the polish and cuticle, and making sure the top coat is closer to the cuticle than the polish is. This will prevent shrinkage, which is common with quick-dry top coats 🙂

Niveda Manohar • I find that sealing the tips causes more chipping. And when it chips, it’s often a larger piece. Without sealing the tips it’s a more gradual wear.
I always do this and my manicure last at least 7 days without a chip
it honestly just depends on your nails
@Eleonore Bon I seal the tip with just the basecoat and the top coat because I noticed the same issue as you… Too many layers at the tip can be counterproductive

Loved this! I have never had a chip free experience with the Chanel gel top coat but have gotten amazing results from the ultra affordable KIKO Milano gel top coat. I would love to hear about your favorites!

I would love to see a video on your favorite nail polish brands.
I have never heard of someone really liking high end/ luxury brand nail polish, usually the opposite. The idea is that even if they look good- they aren’t worth it for the price, or that they are worse than the cheap drugstore ones. So hearing what you like specifically about the chanel and Burberry polishes would be great.
It’s all about opinions but…vPersonally I’ve had multiple Chanel nail polish and I noticed they were pretty hard to apply, very liquidish, doesn’t dry 100%… I don’t know if it’s just the ones i’ve bought but they were honestly not even good. I like Dior and Yves Saint Laurent a lot though, they’re gorgeous. In drugstore, I’d say Essie is wonderful to me, for O.P.I (IDK if its drugstore???) I’m mixed, some colors look WONDERFUL and other are similar to the Chanel ones so… pretty bad. The brand Sephora isn’t drugstore but it’s super cheap and quite nice!

Yves Saint Laurent and Dior polishes are amazing aka worth the price. Avoid Chanel. Essie is good too. Maybelline is cheap and good
There’s only one polish shade for me: Midnight in Moscow by OPI. Its darkest brown with the very slightest hint of shimmer. Anything else feels like a compromise! I’m so thrilled to see short, dark nails getting attention. To me, it’s the most sophisticated, flattering look on pale hands. This video will be my absolute go to, thanks so much Matilda and a very merry (weird, hot, sunny) Christmas to you!
